Stories
from the Circle: Apprentice
Written by Jared Aragona
'Stories from the Circle: Apprentice' is the hardcover collection of the first three books in the science fiction/fantasy series, 'Stories from the Circle' (Know Thyself, Riesa, and Oxinopses).
Together they chronicle the growth of Miles Dean, who discovers his calling as a 'Caretaker of Existence'. As a Caretaker, Miles is charged with ensuring that creation continues on all nine planets in what is known as the Great Circle. His journey begins on Earth, also known as Escips, where he is an apprentice to the powerful “Guiding Caretaker” Oliver Crucias. Caretakers are born with a self on each world and must journey in consciousness to all worlds in the Great Circle to undertake Caretaker Quests that thwart creation’s greatest enemies, the “Breakers,” who seek to bring creation to an end. Miles continues to develop his Caretaker's instinct as he travels to the world of Riesa, where disease is rampant, and then to the world of Oxinopses, where the smallest of creatures are the most conscious. In each world, he encounters Breakers, whose destructive efforts he must thwart. In order to secure their victories, Caretakers grow to realize great powers, but in this latest generation, those powers may not be enough, as Miles soon begins to realize.

About
the Author
- Jared Aragona was born in White Plains, NY in
1969 and then lived in Arizona and Texas before
attending Cornell University and graduating in
1991 with a degree in communication. In the
early nineties, Jared worked in Hollywood
writing script treatments and ad copy while also
developing the early versions of the 'Stories
from the Circle' series. Then, in 1995, Jared returned to school to study literature, explore rare archives, and achieve a better understanding of the way the stories people tell have influenced human consciousness for better or worse. Of particular interest to Jared was the concept of utopia and the ways that writers represented their visions of an ideal world. Ten years of studying literature and mythology eventually led Jared to a Ph.D in English from the University of Arizona and the completion of Utopian Canvas, a dissertation that studies the way that utopian mythology impacted the exploration and colonization of America. Today Dr. Jared L. Aragona is the author of the modern fantasy/sci fi series 'Stories from the Circle' and is a professor of English at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona where he teaches World Mythology, focusing on gods, creation, heroes, and utopias; he also teaches several writing classes.
