Elder
Financial Protection Network Celebrates 10th
Anniversary 10
Years of Preventing Financial Abuse of Seniors & Dependent
Adults
This year the Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN), a
statewide non-profit in California dedicated to preventing
financial abuse of seniors and dependent adults, celebrates its
tenth year of service.
EFPN, headquartered in San Francisco, began in 2000 with a group
of visionary bankers in Marin County. Under the stewardship of
founder and CEO Jenefer Duane EFPN has presented hundreds of
community education events throughout the state. It has also
provided professional training to more than 20,000 elders,
consumers, financial professionals and representatives of law
enforcement, legal and social services throughout the nation.
The non-profit’s mission is to prevent the financial abuse of
elders through innovative partnerships with financial
institutions, law enforcement, adult protective services and
others that build public awareness, drive community outreach,
and provide professional training as well as online education
for consumers and professionals
seeking information and resources.
“Today’s economic crisis combined with the rapidly
increasing older adult population has led to a dramatic rise in
financial abuse statistics. We have a great deal of work ahead
of us,” said Duane, an internationally known elder justice
advocate and producer of EFPN’s ‘Be Wise’ training program for
financial institution employees in 2002. ‘Be Wise’ received
three international awards and has been implemented in more than
400 financial institutions in California and beyond.
She also served on the Advisory Council for the Attorney
General’s Statewide Public Awareness Campaign on elder abuse and
was appointed to the UC Davis Medical Training Center Advisory
Committee on Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse in 2004.
In December 2009 in honor of the FDIC’s 75th anniversary,
Jenefer and EFPN received the FDIC’s Chairman’s Award for
Innovation in Financial Education. In 2008, EFPN’s was
identified as a “promising practice” by the National Center on
Elder Abuse. Former California Attorney General Bill Lockyer
presented Jenefer with the 2003 Distinguished Service Award for
Elder Abuse Prevention. EFPN’s credits also include being the
subject of a recent NBC Documentary ‘Wise Money’.

Our Mission:
"Big Blend Magazine is a company based on the belief that education is the most formidable weapon that can be waged against fear, ignorance and prejudice.
It is our belief that education starts at
home and branches outward. Education leads to travel, and
travel leads to understanding, tolerance, and appreciation
of cultures and customs different to our own, and ultimately
to world peace. Our company is further based on the
principle that networking, communication, and helping others
to promote and market themselves leads to financial
stability; thus paving the way to better education, travel,
and the spirit of giving back to the community."
