Mother's
Day
Read the story and play the
game. Clues are in pink!
Hello kids this month
there is a very important day to remember, Mother's Day. The second
Sunday in May has been selected to
honor our mothers. This
year it is on May 10th.
We recognize that our mothers are very special people who love us and
work every day to make sure we are safe, healthy, and have a good
education. They provide us a standard for our beliefs, manors, and a
sense of right and wrong. Mothers are there to give us a hug, put a
band-aid on, or to scold us for not cleaning our room. They give us a
foundation to build on and a basket of knowledge to pass on to the next
generation. Mothers should be
respected and appreciated on Mother’s Day.
In the U.S., in 1908
Ana Jarvis, from Grafton,
West Virginia, began a campaign to establish a National Mother's Day.
Jarvis persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to
celebrate Mother's Day on the anniversary of her mother's death. A
memorial service was held there on
May 10, 1908 and in
Philadelphia the following year where Jarvis moved. This desire for
mothers to care for their children is also in most animals. It is called
instinct. Did you know
that some animal mothers pretend to be hurt so that predators will chase
her? The animal runs away from the babies while the predator chases
them. I watched this once when a duck started to limp. She hobbled away
as a dog chased her. After she was far away from her baby ducks she flew
away and then returned to her babies.
There are many kinds of mothers, each
unique and special. I am sure you love your mother and want to do
something nice on Mother’s Day to thank her for all she does for you.
Did you know that more flowers are sold on mother’s day than any other
day of the year? How about making your mother a pretty card? Try this;
go outside and find some pretty flowers. Look at them closely for a
minute or two, then try and draw them on a paper. Then color the flower.
Next add a few words to tell your mother how you feel. This will mean a
lot to her. Of course there are many things you can make. You probably
have an arts and craft
project at school; like making a clay pot, painting, sewing, your
handprint, paper mashie, etc. Arts and crafts are so much fun.
Enjoy making your gift and give your
mom a very special Mother’s Day.

Our Mission: "Big Blend Magazine is a company based on the belief that education is the most formidable weapon that can be waged against fear, ignorance and prejudice.
It is our belief that education starts at
home and branches outward. Education leads to travel, and
travel leads to understanding, tolerance, and appreciation
of cultures and customs different to our own, and ultimately
to world peace. Our company is further based on the
principle that networking, communication, and helping others
to promote and market themselves leads to financial
stability; thus paving the way to better education, travel,
and the spirit of giving back to the community."
