NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS: BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW!

Listen to the Big Blend Radio interview with editor and writer Becky Baines, who talks about the new National Geographic Kids Book, “Bet You Didn’t Know: Fascinating, Far-out, Fun-tastic Facts!”

Did you know that the first stop signs were black and white? Or that Kermit the Frog wasn’t originally a frog (but a lizardlike creature)? Or that fried scorpions are a popular snack in Beijing, China?! There’s a lot to know and we bet you’ll have fun learning these fun, far-out facts in the next super series from National Geographic Kids: Bet You Didn’t Know: Fascinating, Far-out, Fun-tastic Facts! (Fun Facts).

Bet You Didn’t Know is based on a favorite department in Nat Geo Kids magazine, this (big, hardcover) book is chock-full of fascinating facts, silly stats, and catchy little knowledge nuggets in all kinds of cool categories, from astronomy and dinosaurs to revolutions and breakfast. Special features include Extreme Weirdness, Strange Places, Wacky World, and more.

Becky Baines is a writer and editor at National Geographic Children’s Books and co-host of the Weird But True Radio Show on Kids Place Live, Sirius XM channel 78.  Her line of business requires finding lots of fascinating, far-out, fun-tastic facts, which is why this job is perfect for Becky. On a normal work day she has eaten a nacho cheese flavored meal worm, helped to build the world’s largest toilet paper roll rocket, and played with a penguin. When she’s not getting paid to goof around, she actually edits books like Why?; Weird But True; Don’t Read this Book Before Bed; and, of course, Bet You Didn’t Know. In her life outside of work, Becky shares the knowledge nuggets she gains on the job with the rest of the world, whether they like it or not. She shares her home in Arlington, Virginia with a dog named Bob Barker, who also works at Nat Geo as a cover dog, and spokes-canine.
