5000 THE BAND
This episode of Big Blend Radio features 5000 The Band, a guitar duo based in Denver, Colorado that includes lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Meghann Jordan and lead guitar partner Matt Youngblood.
Meghann (5000) Jordan came up in the Athens, Georgia music scene. Surrounded by such influences as R.E.M. and Vic Chesnutt, and other local musicians, she started playing guitar at age 13 and writing songs at 18. Matt spent the 2000’s in Minneapolis fronting his three-piece rock band, Chunky Jackson, heavily influenced by local bands such as Hüsker Dü and the Replacements. Meghann and Matt met through longtime musical cohorts Dave Schools and Jerry Joseph. Both moved to Denver with the intention of starting an original rock band. They have been gigging as a duo (and sometimes a 4-piece rock band) for the past 2.5 years locally in Colorado, as well as nationally. Their music sounds like Minneapolis-meets-Athens Alterna-Punk with a strong 90’s influence.
In early 2017, Meghann returned to Athens to record her first 6-song EP under the name “5k” backed by Creston Spiers and Paul Trudeau of Harvey Milk with Mike Albanese from Espresso Machine Studios. In April 2017 Meghann and Matt played their first show at The Winter Park Pub in Winter Park, Colorado which led to some national dates. In February 2018, with their original 4-piece line up, they recorded their first single “Anger” with Kyle Jones at Sleeping Brotherhood Music Recording Studio in Denver, CO. They continued playing duo shows and a few full band shows in the summer of 2018 with an ever-evolving cast of players. In the interim, 5000 the Duo recorded a series of singles at KMG Life Studios in Boulder, CO and Shitshow Studios in Denver with Eric Martinez.
5000 the Band has been playing regularly around Colorado and the Denver metro-area and are currently at work on a full-length album with Todd Divel of Silo Sound set to release in the Winter of 2019. More at www.5000TheBand.com
