A VISIT WITH ARTIST ANDREA FAYE

Enjoy the video of our visit with ceramic artist Andrea Faye at her Studio B in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Andrea began working with clay in 2000 by taking a six-week pottery course through the Fayette County Parks and Recreation department.  Little did she know that this weekly retreat from family and responsibilities would become a passion! Andrea continued to attend these classes for several years and developed her skills on the pottery wheel. However, she really enjoyed hand-building with clay which she feels allows for a greater range of artistic expression. In 2006, she became a student of Karen Beswick, a ceramic artist who specialized in Raku firing. Karen taught her different clay firing techniques and provided her with artistic instruction for several years. Since then Andrea has continued her education in clay by attending workshops taught by clay artist greats such as Curtis Denzel, Robin Hopper, Chris Grydner, Gerit Grimm, and Bill Van Guilder.

2009 saw the construction of her backyard Studio B. Along with creating her clay art, Andrea instructs in open studio classes, where she teaches adults interested in creating, building, and expressing themselves with clay.

Andrea has been active in such organizations as Fine Arts and Crafts Entrepreneurs (FAACE), The Potters Guild, Newnan Coweta Arts Association, and Ceramics Daily. With the help of fellow artisans and friends, Andrea established the first annual Southern Hands Artists Studio Tour that is held annually on the 2nd full weekend of November.

She continues to create unique functional pieces but has also begun to do more sculpting. Nothing ever stays the same when an artist continues to grow in their techniques and abilities.
