CHOLESTEROL & HEART HEALTH
Dr. Jacqueline Eubany joins Big Blend Radio to discuss cholesterol and how it affects heart health.
Cholesterol is an important substance in the body needed for normal function. The body obtains its cholesterol from two sources: your liver and from what you eat. Your total body levels of cholesterol are regulated by these two sources as well as the amounts that is excreted from the body.
High blood levels of cholesterol can increase your risk for heart disease. There are two kinds of cholesterol in the body. LDL and HDL. LDL is considered the bad cholesterol, because it is responsible for depositing cholesterol plaques into the blood vessel. HDL is considered the good cholesterol because it removes these cholesterol plaques from the blood vessels and provides some beneficial antioxidants for the body. To decrease your risk for heart disease you ideally want to have high levels of HDL and low levels of LDL cholesterol along with some lifestyle changes.
Dr Jacqueline Eubany is a board certified cardiologist and electrophysiologist, and author of the must have book “Women and Heart Disease: The Real Story”.
