Jeff Seitzer: The Fun Master

ON BIG BLEND RADIO: Jeff Seitzer discusses his compassionate new memoir, “THE FUN MASTER: A Father’s Journey of Love, Loss, and Learning to Live One Day at a Time.” Watch here in the YouTube player or download the podcast on Spreaker, PodBean, or SoundCloud.

A self-involved academic struggling to cope with his own neurological problems, Jeff Seitzer could hardly take care of himself, let alone a child with special needs, when his son, Ethan, was born — but Ethan chose him anyway, and Jeff, to his great surprise, rose to the challenge.

Despite a myriad of health and other challenges, Ethan went on to thrive during his short life—all the while teaching Jeff that the true path to happiness is putting other people’s needs before your own and living in the moment rather than trying to control it.

In his deeply honest and stunningly crafted memoir, “The Fun Master” (SparkPress, August 16, 2022), Jeff Seitzer explores how parenting a special needs son and an adopted daughter changed his life for the better. Woven within Seitzer’s difficult journey are moments of pure joy sparked from the unconditional love and unbreakable bond shared by parent and child.

Jeff Seitzer was an expert on the care of the self, himself in particular, before he unexpectedly became a stay-at-home dad. Accounts of his on-the-job training as a full time parent have appeared in the Omaha World-Herald, Hippocampus, Brevity, Adoptive Families Magazine, and elsewhere. An award-winning teacher, he is also the author of a number of books and articles on law and philosophy and a regular contributor to the CMTA Report. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, he now lives with his family in Chicago, where he teaches at Roosevelt University. To learn more about Jeff’s life and work, visit:
