OREGON’S WILLAMETTE VALLEY WINE REGION

Travel, food and wine writer Priscilla Willis talks with Big Blend Radio about her recent visit to Willamette Valley Wine Country in Oregon.

Along with the region being the home of New World Pinot Noir, Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded Willamette Valley as its 2016 Wine Region of the Year for the annual Wine Star Awards. Oregon has long been a leader in environmental stewardship. The state has the nation’s most protective land use policies, the first bottle recycling law, and the highest minimum wages for farm workers. The region’s wine industry is committed to sustainable farming and winemaking practices. The three major certification programs commonly found in Oregon vineyards include: LIVE, Organic, and Biodynamic.

When exploring Willamette Valley, Priscilla recommends a visit to Fratelli-Ponzi in Dundee where you can enjoy a wine flight and olive oil tastings at the wine bar and retail store. The Dundee Bistro next door is known for its delicate pasta, fresh caught seafood, and locally grown produce – all with expertly paired wines. Historic McMinnville is another highlight with a fabric store, independent book store, a record store, an art supply store, and Willamette Valley Tasting Room that features superior wines from Willamette Valley Vineyards.
