ON BIG BLEND RADIO: Travel writer Linda Kissam and John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises and Chief Experience & Innovation Officer for Carnival Corporation, discuss the extraordinary Princess Cruises 360 Experience. Watch here in the YouTube player or download the podcast on PodBean.

In The 360: An Extraordinary Experience, guests booked in suite accommodations as well as selected VIPs are invited to embark on a six senses journey showcasing the spectacular hilltops of Santorini, Amalfi Coast, Barcelona, and Provence. Through synchronized storytelling, imagery, music, scents, cuisine, and stunning visual film, guests are introduced to local ingredients, artisans, passionate purveyors, and culinary methods simultaneously paired with a seven-course gourmet experience including wines that emerge from the story of each destination. There is no extra cost involved in obtaining a ticket.

“360 is a fusion of master storytelling, world-class cuisine, visual entertainment, and ground-breaking technology that manifests in what can only be described as an Extraordinary Experience,” said Princess President John Padgett. “360 is a remarkable adventure that immerses our guests into the compelling cultures and flavors of the Mediterranean in a 90-minute celebration of the senses.”

It all begins with two seatings nightly. The hidden venue accommodates 20 guests surrounded by LED walls in a circular format that places guests into featured destinations using spectacular 4K cinematography.

As a media partner, I was invited to try the experience for myself. I entered a cloaked room where each guest was assigned a seat in one of the 2 half circles of 10 seats each. When I sat down, my dining surface welcomed me by name. It sets the tone that something different is happening here in a somewhat fantastical Disney-esque kind of way.

The master of ceremonies in a suit and white gloves is your “ringmaster” You begin to understand every time he waves his hand something glorious and travel related is going to happen or change.

You soon learn that this is the story of a passenger on a cruise ship who is traveling solo and sharing her first-time Mediterranean journey for the first time through her art and journaling. Brooke Shields plays the traveler.

Pretty much 7 courses and 7 different cities showcasing the spectacular hilltops of Santorini, Amalfi Coast, Barcelona, and Provence are there to wow each guest again and again. Each course is paired with local wine and food. If you’ve been to these Mediterranean cities, you just nod and dive deeper into them. If not, it is an excellent way to begin your education.

The white walls around you explode with large videos immediately putting you in the featured city/country and their foodie areas. Your eating surface becomes its own complementary video area. For example, as they were talking about France and lavender, bees appeared all over my place setting and the area surrounding my plate. Touch the closed flowers next to your plate and they open up swaying in the gentle breeze. As promised, each guest’s senses are fully engaged for 90 minutes. From start to finish, I am not sure anyone could ask for more.

Probably the most dramatic thing that shows up is at the last course, as they talk about lavender, the scent of lavender descends about the room, bringing the circle of immersion to a dramatic closure.

This experience gets my Diva thumbs up for a truly unforgettable experience.
