RANDOM ACTS OF HAPPINESS: A RIPPLE EFFECT OF JOY
By Shelley Whizin

Let’s be real — the world feels a little upside down right now. With so much noise, uncertainty, division, and heartbreak, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or shut down. People are hurting. People are tired. And in so many ways, we’re all just trying to find our way back to something that feels like connection, meaning, and hope. That’s why I love this month’s theme: Random Acts of Happiness.

ON BIG BLEND RADIO: Transformational life coach Shelley Whizin dives deep into the meaning of happiness—how it shows up in our lives, why it matters, and how it can coexist with grief and challenge. Watch here in the YouTube playelist or download the episode on Podbean.

Think of them as tiny love bombs — unexpected bursts of joy that land right when someone needs it most. A smile to a stranger. A note of encouragement on a windshield. An extra tip for a tired barista. A phone call just to say, “I see you.” These aren’t grand gestures. They’re small, soulful moments that say: You matter. We’re still human. We’re still in this together. When we’re on the receiving end, they remind us that the world isn’t all doom and gloom. And when we’re the ones giving, it opens our hearts and gives us purpose — even just for a moment.

The beautiful thing about happiness is that it’s contagious. When we share it, it grows. And right now, more than ever, the world could use a little more lightness, a little more laughter, and a whole lot more love.

So, this August — in honor of Happiness Happens Month — I invite you to be someone’s sunshine. Don’t overthink it. Just follow the nudge when your heart says, “Do that. Say that. Give that.” Buy a stranger’s coffee. Text someone a compliment. Offer your seat. Pick up a piece of trash. Dance in the grocery store aisle (yes, I’ve done that — and no, it’s not embarrassing if it makes someone smile!).

And if you’re having a tough day yourself? Try a random act of happiness for your own sweet self. Kindness works both ways.

This month’s theme, Random Acts of Happiness, comes from our joyful friends at the Society of Happy People. They’ve been celebrating happiness for over 20 years — yes, they even have their own holidays! What started as the Secret Society of Happy People (because people used to hide their joy!) has grown into a global movement of folks who believe happiness is worth sharing out loud. And I couldn’t agree more.

So, let’s follow their lead — and sprinkle happy wherever we go. You never know whose life you’ll touch with one tiny, human-to-human moment of joy.
