STREET DRUGS & HEART HEALTH
By Dr. Jacqueline Eubany
Street drugs, especially stimulants like cocaine, methamphetamines, ecstasy, and speed can increase your risk for heart disease.
These drugs cause an increase in adrenaline hormones that make your heart beat fast and increases your blood pressure. This, in turn, can lead to a heart attack. When you use cocaine, your risk for a heart attack increases up to 24-fold within the first hour of use.
On this episode of Big Blend Radio’s Quality of Life Show, Dr Jacqueline Eubany shares how street drugs, especially stimulants like cocaine, methamphetamines, ecstasy, and speed can increase your risk for heart disease.
These street drugs can also cause abnormal heartbeats that can lead to instantaneous death; they can cause a stroke, and they can cause the major artery in the body to tear which can also lead to instantaneous death.
These drugs not only have short term effects on the heart, but they also have long-term effects. They can lead to heart failure many years later.
Overall street drugs are detrimental to the heart. I encourage you to refrain from trying them, and if you use them regularly, I encourage you to seek help to break the addiction.
