TED DEGRAZIA’S DESERT BLOOMS
Listen to the Big Blend Radio interview with Lance Laber, Executive Director of DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun in Tucson, about famous Arizona artist Ted DeGrazia’s work featured in the gallery’s new exhibits “Desert Blooms” and “Way of the Cross.”
“Desert Blooms” – The flora and fauna of the Sonoran desert in Spring are celebrated in “Desert Blooms”, a selection of 1950’s watercolors by Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia. These colorful and playful paintings of cactus flowers and desert critters will be on display at the Gallery in the Sun through September 4th, 2019.
“Way of the Cross” – The annual showing of Ted DeGrazia’s “The Way of the Cross” is on display through Lent with 15 original oil paintings that depict the suffering and crucifixion of Christ. Instead of the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross, DeGrazia’s collection culminates with the resurrection. “I never thought the cycle would be completed unless we had the 15th station where Jesus arises in glory,” the artist explained on a 15-minute audiotape that accompanies the exhibition. On display through May 22nd, 2019.
DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is a 10-acre historic district in the foothills of Tucson, Arizona’s Santa Catalina Mountains. It was designed and built from the ground up by Ted DeGrazia who achieved worldwide acclaim for his colorful paintings of native cultures of the Sonoran desert. Using traditional adobe bricks crafted on-site, DeGrazia built the gallery so his paintings “would feel good inside”. Visit www.DeGrazia.org.
